Quality inbound links from sponsorships
By VaBeachKevin | April 4, 2008
I read an article earlier on getting links by sponsoring a charity. I’ve got to say that this seems like a pretty good idea, but it also seems like a backdoor workaround to get some paid links. You’re not getting these links naturally due to the relative content of your site. You had to put up something on your end to get those links. Even though it may not be a straight cash exchange, you are giving some kind of valuable item, whether its goods or services. Now I’m not bashing the idea at all, I’m just curious to see how Google will look at it. I have a feeling they won’t like it because it’s only a matter of time before its abused and you see some buy Viagra site sponsoring Jerry’s Kids or something and the porn/pills/casino affiliates screw it up for everyone. Are we going to have to nofollow every single link on our site that has some kind of reimbursement attached, no matter how distant that relationship is just to be on the safe side?
